480p Patch by asmodean: external link

Notes

– If you are getting messages about the archive being corrupted, verify that

  • you have an up-to-date version of your archiver program
  • you have downloaded all parts of the archive for your version of the game
  • the checksums of all parts match those in the .md5 checksum file (last link in each section)

– Contrary to the beta, you only need to get one patch: the one that matches the version you own.
– No matter which version you will start with, the end result is the same patched .iso containing all features
– The patch progress will either fail or succeed, but if you want to double-check, these are the final checksums you should be seeing:

  • CRC32: 027A757F
  • MD5: D3A3F8CC08D3E6277AA72FC16F994E4D
  • SHA1: 418D1C70A77C3FFAA4F453B3CFB4422A2DD5EFF2
  • SHA256: B5D6C96627FFD3D03176A7E5CABAA6EEC1E8CE204E3D178545358F97F268C82E

– If you apply any extra patches, the checksums above will no longer match.

I don’t suppose there’s a way to keep the English Voices?

I’m gonna miss maximum penetration, to say the least.

  2. Soukyuu Post author

No, the space freed by removing the English voice files was used to fully undub the game, as well as for our re-encoded videos.

Besides, the text changes are so big that most of the time the voice track will only vaguely match the text, if at all.

    Md5:

    EU: 26dd141fb8cf85676fd3370933c99c9f

    US: 1b83937656fd8fede5c0fbc8dbc11f8f

    undub: d11a1751e041349265d4f2932f7d5e2d

The 480p patch should be applied after the relocalization patch.

I’ve added the checksums to their respective download sections.

You don’t have to verify the .xdelta file itself, xdelta.exe will do that for you before starting the patching process – the checksum is embedded into the .xdelta file

There are arguments for having multiple-part archives, for direct downloads, but…
Why on Earth do you have multiple-part archives, in the torrents?
It’s a completely needless over-complication, with no possible benefit, whatsoever.

  6. Soukyuu Post author

@Zarlan: Redistributing one package over different channels is simpler. You can also download partially from one source and resume from another that way.

    Greetings.
First, thank you so much for doing this. This is one of my favourite games and really appreciate what you did.
Second….. I’ve never done any of this patching thing, what do I need to do if I own an US copy of the game. I extract it, end up with an .iso, download “Patch for the Retail US Version” and then? Just a quick explanation, I can google the rest if its an extensive procedure.

    THANKS AGAIN!!

  8. CDaniel

Aw snap…. Just saw there’s a READ ME inside the rar, lol. I should’ve guessed :/
    Anyway, one last time, THANKS!!!!

Hey, all. I’m extremely amazed this project actually is actually finished! I remember first hearing about this while I was in Middle School and now I’m in College. This is amazing.

Also, I have a question to ask. I’m trying to apply the patch and I get an error that says

“xdelta3 file open failed: read: ar_tonelico_2_us.iso: The system cannot find the file specified.”

Now, I have the iso in a .rar which works when I load it in PCSX2. What should I do?

  10. aquagon

You need to decompress it. The patcher only works with the iso itself, not with a .rar or .zip version of it.

  11. Duncan Idaho

The patch is not working, the .iso is an US version and I downloaded the US version patch, xdelta says that checksums do not match.

  12. Cythyel

Cant decompress the US version patch, says that its not an archive, tried with latest winrar and 7zip too. Tried merging it into a single archive, same result. :/

  13. aquagon

Try redownloading them. It’s possible the download got cut off at some point and the archives you downloaded are incomplete or corrupted.

Yesterday, I heard the ringtone of my mobile phone (“A Small Journey” from AT 2) for the first time in months and felt a surge of nostalgia. I then spent the rest of the day updating a Windows 7 partition that had never been used in three years and downloading stuff. Eventually, at about 10:30 pm, I more or less cried in front of the opening. Sure, I have some sound lags and a strange black grid appears in the background during most dialogs, but I guess that’s not your fault and it’s still playable. And finding a Linux shell script bundled with your patch was the icing on the cake.
By the way, as it seems some have trouble extracting the patch, here’s what I experienced: my file manager (Thunar) was instantly running into an error when trying to extract it, but I’m not sure about what commands it exactly uses (maybe 7z). I then tried a dumb “unrar x at2_us_to_metafalica_v1.0.part1.rar” and it worked like a charm. Weird.
Well, long story short: thanks a bunch, guys. Oh, and I think some of you were also involved in the translation of the visual novels, so thanks for that too. I read them on my ridiculously tiny phone during train trips. I almost turned them into a LaTeX version just for the heck of it but since you were probably still correcting stuff I dropped the idea.
I would have given you all a slice of my “Atelier series 20th anniversary pie” if I could have done so. → http://www.alicem.net/files/pics/a20.jpg
    Bye.

I had no idea at all this was made. Ar tonelico 2 is one of my favorites games ever and for chance something made it remember and wanted to play the game today so i looked for it and found about this.

Honestly i’m still good with the english dub and removing Laura Bailey’s voice (Luca) is almost heresy in my book, but i can still see why you did it and i can agree that there were parts there that could have been better in the dub too. Considering all the improves i’m all up to play the game with your patch and i’m really thankful for it.

Thanks again and good luck with any new project you may have.

  16. LIGHTDX

I think it should mention that the game repatched has the name of “Ar_tonelico_2_Project_Metafalica” but in order to use the widescreen codecs (perfect pair with the 480p patch) You need to rename the iso patched as the name of the original iso unpatched. I spent all the night trying to figure out why it looked normal until i decided to try the diferent ISO.

  17. aquagon

These are the hashes for after the iso has been patched. The checksums for the unpatched isos are located to the right of the download link for each of the patch versions.

Even though I believe I patched an undubbed iso, I’ve noticed that the majority of scenes are unvoiced as I’m playing, even in the Cosmosphere. For example, there were only two voiced scenes in Luca’s Level 2 Cosmosphere. If the retail release had fewer voiced scenes than this, it must have been hardly anything at all.

As long as the CRC of my patched iso matches what’s up above, it means there’s no way I could’ve combined the wrong combination of iso and patch and missed out on audio files, right?

And thanks for all of your hard work.

  19. aquagon

Several Cosmosphere scenes are voiceless, so I’m afraid that’s just how the game was in its original JP release as well. However, you might want to compare a few scenes, like for example the introduction, to the retail release if you want an idea of what voiceovers were removed.

I can’t believe that I only just found this. I’m downloading this right now to patch my AT2 as I’m in Phase 3 of a new playthrough.
Thank you for all the hard work you’ve all put into fixing NIS’s mess!

  21. Keres

Only just found this, now i got a reason to start the serie once again. Thanks for the hard work you’ve put in and hourra!

  22. Adam

Ok I need help I have unzipped everything but the patch keeps saying that I don’t have the iso please help.

Hi and many Thanks for this wonderfully Patch.
Have anyone thought about simply do a Patch which keep the english Voices and simply burn to a DVD9 Iso Image?
With your Patch..the Game will fit on a normal DVD..but Slim Ps2 support DVD9 DVDs with 8,5GB Size.
And many of the older PS2 use the Network Adapter with a HDD..then you can Transfer much bigger Iso Files via WinHiip.
Or you can play bigger Games with USB-Adance and FreeMCBoot.

Maybe you can create a Patch which result in a bigger Iso File for us to keep the english Voices?

Thank for your hard Work with that Project.

I love the Ar Tonelico Series..played ArTonelico 1+2+Quoga and actualy Ar No Surge 😀

  24. aquagon

It was discussed and decided from the beginning that we wouldn’t keep the English voices because the script differs so much between NISA’s mess and our version, and moving it to a DVD9 format would cause more problems than it’d solve.

I’m sorry. I feel really stupid. I can’t figure out this patch at all. Im going to go through everything I did as I am bad with computers.

I have the iso of the US Version of AT2. It is definitely an iso file. I downloaded parts 1-6 of the US retail patch. I can only extract from the first part. The others all give me errors. I read the “read me”. Named the iso file ar_tonelico_2_us.iso and put it in the folder at2_us_to_metafalica_v1.0.part1 with the batch file and the xdelta patch. I ran the batch file and get “file open failed: read: ar_tonelico_2_us.iso: The system cannot find the file specified.”

I tried extracting the xdelta patch, I got” cannot open file as archive”

I tried extracting the Iso file and then moving the patch to the folder that created. Same result.

I tried creating a new folder, putting the iso and raw download there. Extracting the patch again, and then trying the new batch file. Same result.

I tried re downloading all the iso file, and all patch parts again. Same result.

I’m sorry. I’m really dub here. I do not understand what to do at this point.

  26. aquagon

We’ll need more details about in which folder you’re attempting to put the ISO and patch, and other things to be able to properly help you. Please come into the ARM Discord server using this link so we can help you troubleshoot the problems with the patch: https://discord.com/invite/2xMZbZs

Still, there’s one first step you can try beforehand: disable the “Hide known file extensions” option in Windows Explorer, and make sure the ISO file didn’t end up having “.iso.iso” at the end of its name.
